Broncos WR Welker suspended for 4 games (Yahoo Sports)

The Denver Broncos will be without Wes Welker for the first four games of the season after the NFL said the receiver violated the league's performance-enhancing drug policy. News of Welker's ban didn't come down until late Tuesday, after the league offices had closed and the Broncos had already finished drawing up blueprints for their opener against Indianapolis, undoubtedly with Welker playing a prominent role. ESPN first reported Welker's suspension, saying the violation had to do with amphetamines. Welker told the Denver Post in an email that he was ''as shocked as everyone at today's news.'' He noted he's meticulous about what he puts in his body and would ''never knowingly take a substance to gain a competitive advantage in any way.'' The 11th-year pro who's been the NFL's top slot receiver over the last decade added that he never concerned himself with the league's drug rules but now realizes those policies ''are clearly flawed.'' While it takes multiple violations of the league's substance-abuse policies to trigger a suspension, a four-game ban is issued for a single violation of the NFL's ban on performance-enhancing substances.

J.J. Watt couldn't sleep on Monday night after agreeing to a six-year contract extension with the Houston Texans. A cleaning lady let him in and Watt went straight to the weight room. ''I thought they were pulling a joke on me,'' Watt said Tuesday.

NFL suspends Irsay 6 games, fines him $500,000 (Yahoo Sports)

The NFL suspended Jim Irsay for the first six games of the season and fined him $500,000 for violating its personal conduct policy, coming down hard on the Indianapolis Colts owner Tuesday just hours after he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor stemming from an embarrassing March traffic stop. Commissioner Roger Goodell said Irsay is barred from team facilities, practices and games and cannot represent the Colts at NFL meetings or events. ''I have stated on numerous occasions that owners, management personnel and coaches must be held to a higher standard than players,'' Goodell told Irsay in a letter released by the NFL. ''We discussed this during our meeting and you expressed your support for that view, volunteering that owners should be held to the highest standard.'' The 55-year-old Irsay pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated and acknowledged during his appearance before a Hamilton County judge that he was under the influence of the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone when he was arrested March 16 near his home in the Indianapolis suburb of Carmel.

Belichick says he'll make call on Gronk return (Yahoo Sports)

One day after New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski pronounced himself ready to return, Bill Belichick reminded him it will be the coach's decision. ''With all due respect to Rob, I'm glad he feels the way he does,'' Belichick said during a conference call Tuesday. So it was surprising when Gronkowski told reporters Monday he was ''super excited'' to be returning this week - before Belichick said anything of the sort. ''It just feels good in my mind to know that I'll be out there with my boys, working hard, grinding with them, being out there.'' Gronkowski said he was just getting it out of the way because he figured he'd be asked about it all week.

Cowboys' Brent reinstated, suspended for 10 games (Yahoo Sports)

Former Dallas Cowboys NFL football player Josh Brent arrives at court for closing arguments in his intoxication manslaughter trial Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014, in Dallas. Lawyers wrapped up their closing arguments Tuesday morning before the case went to the jury for deliberations. Prosecutors accuse the former defensive tackle of drunkenly crashing his Mercedes near Dallas during a night out in December 2012, killing his good friend and teammate, Jerry Brown. Former Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Josh Brent is being allowed to return to the NFL, though he won't play right away. The NFL on Tuesday outlined a series of conditions Brent must meet to be eligible to play when the Cowboys return from their bye week in November. Brent retired last year and was sentenced to 180 days in jail after a trial in January in the intoxication manslaughter death of teammate Jerry Brown, a practice squad linebacker for the Cowboys. The 26-year-old Brent must have ''no further adverse involvement with law enforcement'' and faces potential banishment for what the league called ''prohibited alcohol-related conduct.'' Brent's agent, Peter Schaffer, said an appeal of the suspension was planned.

FINAL 2014 NFL Mock Draft Updated For: 5-8-2014

1.)Houston Texans(2-14): DE Jadeveon Clowney- South Carolina

Team Needs: QB, OL, S, OLB

Pick & Team Analysis: Jadeveon Clowney and JJ Watt together would be unstoppable and Texans fans are already creating a buzz and calling for it to happen. Not sure how well Clowney would fit in a 3-4 as a outside linebacker but he is certainly athletic enough to pull it off.

Texans are a Veteran team so maybe they look to address the QB position via Free Agency (Michael Vick, Josh McCown, Josh Freeman or trade for Kirk Cousins or Ryan Mallett (A Recent Rumor That Makes A Lot Of Sense!) and drafting a QB later in the Draft would be the wiser move.

2.)fromSt. Louis Rams(3-13):

OT Greg Robinson- Auburn

Team Needs: QB, OL, LB, S, CB

Pick & Team Analysis: With Jake Long serious knee injury, Rams could really use Auburn Tackle Greg Robinson or Texas A&M Tackle Jake Matthews now! Rams will probably restructure Sam Bradford contract and bring him back, but also add a QB later as insurance. Robinson will likely be considered Top 2 Players in this entire Draft after more scouts study his film and see him work out, he is NASTY and he finishes Blocks.

3.)Jacksonville Jaguars(4-12):  DE/LB Khalil Mack- Buffalo

TEAM NEEDS: QB, DE, OL, WR, RB

Pick & Team Analysis: Jaguars Head Coach Gus Bradley is a defensive guy so the Jaguars could still go with the Best Defensive Player Available and try to find a QB later in the draft. Very similar to what the Seattle Seahawks did while Gus Bradley was the Defensive Coordinator their. They Drafted Bruce Irvin in the 1st Round of the 2012 NFL Draft and then was able to get Russell Wilson in the 3rd Round. Khalil Mack is a even better prospect than Bruce Irvin was coming out of West Virginia.

4.)Cleveland Browns(4-12):  WR Sammy Watkins- Clemson

Team Needs: QB, LB, RB, OL, WR

Pick & Team Analysis: On Offense they have one of the best Offensive Tackle (Joe Thomas) and Center (Alex Mack) in the NFL, as well as one of the best Receivers in the NFL in Pro Bowler Josh Gordon and a extremely athletic playmaking TE in Jordan Cameron. So this would be a great situation for a young QB like Derek Carr, Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel or Blake Bortles.

Maybe...Just Maybe New GM Ray Farmer go gets a Veteran QB to come in a compete with Brian Hoyer for the starting position next season and add yet another playmaker like Sammy Watkins at Receiver to go with Josh Gordon. With all those weapons it wouldn't really matter who was playing QB for the Browns. If they are not confident in Hoyer, then it is a great chance they can get David Carr with that 26th Pick they have from the Colts.

5.)Oakland Raiders(4-12):  QB Derek Carr- Fresno St.

Team Needs: WR, OL, DL, QB, S, CB

Pick & Team Analysis: Raiders would be taking a huge risk trading back and trying to draft Carr later, so they might have to "reach" for the guy the truly want with this pick. Raiders Owner Mark Davis is a HUGE FAN Derek Carr!

6.)Atlanta Falcons(4-12):  OT Jake Matthews- Texas A&M

Team Needs: DE, TE, RB, OL, DT

Pick & Team Analysis:

7.)Tampa Bay Buccaneers(4-12):  QB Johnny Manziel- Texas A&M

Team Needs: DE, TE, QB, OLB, OL

Pick & Team Analysis:

8.)Minnesota Vikings(5-10-1):  QB Blake Bortles- UCF

Team Needs: QB, DE, OL, LB, WR

Pick & Team Analysis:

9.)Buffalo Bills(6-10):  OT Taylor Lewan- Michigan

Team Needs: OL, DE, OLB, S

Pick & Team Analysis:

10.)Detroit Lions(7-9):  CB Justin Gilbert- Oklahoma St.

Team Needs: CB, LB, S, WR

Pick & Team Analysis:

11.)Tennessee Titans(7-9):  DE/LB Anthony Barr- UCLA

Team Needs: OL, DE, CB, QB, S

Pick & Team Analysis:

12.)New York Giants(7-9):  OZack Martin- Notre Dame

TEAM NEEDS:  DL, LB, WR, OL, CB Depth

Pick & Team Analysis:

13.)St. Louis Rams(7-9):  DB Ha'Sean "Ha Ha" Clinton-Dix

Team Needs: OL, LB, S, CB, QB

Pick & Team Analysis:

Team Needs: DT, LB, CB, S

Pick & Team Analysis:
